Appeal for Financial Aid 2006-2007

We need financial support from the wider community to enable us to continue to survive.

We particularly need Sponsors for the Concerts held in Fuengirola in December and May. We also invite you to take up advertising space in our programmes and publicity material.

Dear Friends and Music-lovers,                   September 2006

It gives me great pleasure to be writing this letter………What a strange way to begin an appeal!!!!!!!

I say this only because I am writing to you after what has been, by general agreement of our Musical Director, our members and our audiences, a very memorable year in our history. Our concerts were very successful and as well attended as ever and we have been thrilled at the response and accolades from so many people after our performances of the Requiem by Mozart in May. Many of our members had long desired to perform this work…and now their dream has been realised.

This was our most ambitious programme ever, not simply in terms of the musical demands on our members, but particularly in terms of expense and it would not have been possible without the financial help of people such as you – music-lovers who like to support good amateur music-making here on this coast. We have to rely on the generosity and benevolence of patrons and sponsors and we are indeed very grateful to so many of you, our friends, for your past support. Once again I ask you to keep on helping us as this is the only way in which we can guarantee our future.

We have already started to rehearse for our Christmas Concerts when we will be performing a very varied programme of music ranging from Buxtehude to Rutter and it will include the famous “Hear My Prayer” by Mendelssohn and a Concerto for 2 Oboes by Albinoni. We are very excited about a new venture for us in the Spring as we will be joined by a choir from Bridgend in South Wales for our concerts. The music will include Mendelssohn´s “Lobgesang” (Hymn of Praise) and Vivaldi´s “Gloria”.

For the last 4 years the policy of the Archdiocese means we have not been allowed to charge for tickets for concerts held in churches. Obviously this has had a tremendous impact on us and we have had to dip quite heavily into our reserves in order to give our twice-yearly concerts and to maintain the standards to which our audiences have become accustomed.
