Collegium Musicum

Annemarie Philipps (originally from Bremen in Germany) has been the guiding light of the Choir and Orchestra of Collegium Musicum since January 1992; she has led us with a safe pair of hands and she is a great inspiration to us with her boundless enthusiasm and initiative. She has been a member of Collegium Musicum since 1978, first as a singer and a violin and viola player, and now as Director. Since 1983 she has been a member of the Málaga Provincial Symphony Orchestra. She directs almost all the rehearsals with the help of Delyth Bressington at the piano, and she is responsible for choosing the repertoire.

The Choir and Orchestra Collegium Musicum Costa del Sol was founded in 1975 by a few music lovers who were based on this coast and it has grown year on year; today we are a flourishing international society that reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the Costa del Sol with about 100 singers and instrumentalists from some 15 nationalities.

Rehearsals take place in Los Boliches, Fuengirola every Tuesday evening from September to May in the Church of Jesus Christ of The Latter Day Saints to whom we are most grateful for their hospitality. We give concerts twice yearly (at the end of May and at Christmas time), one performance is always in Marbella and the other somewhere in the Fuengirola/Benalmádena/Mijas area. Recent performances have included Haydn´s “Nelson” Mass, Mozart´s 3rd Violin Concerto, “Requiem” and “Coronation” Masses and most recently, Vivaldi´s “Gloria” and Mendelssohn´s “Hymn of Praise”. Due to the linguistic talents of our Director of Music, rehearsals are conducted in Spanish, English and German There is always a warm welcome for new members – particularly for string players and singers who can read music! (The ability to read music for singers is not as important as a love for singing and a good ear)
